Study as a Visiting Scholar at City of Hope National Medical Center for Seven months in USA

Dr. Pengfei Xu, Research Associate of Nanjing Maternal and Child Health Medical Institute, Nanjing Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital (Women’s Hospital of Nanjing Medical University), who as a Visiting Scholar in Dr. Qiong (Annabel) Wang’s Lab from December 3, 2019 to July 14, 2020 in the Department of Molecular & Cellular Endocrinology at City of Hope National Medical Center.

The Qiong (Annabel) Wang Lab studies the development of fat cells- in particular the ones that make up white adipose tissue, sometimes called “bad fat”. Using advanced tissue-specific, induced knockout mouse models, Dr. Wang studies the region-specific remodeling of adipose tissue under physiological and pathological conditions such as insulin resistance, obesity and cancer. Most of her works have been published in top journals, including Nat Cell Biol, Nat Med, Cell Metab, J Clin Invest.
During this period, Dr. Xu has been working on 3D imaging of brown adipocyte development in the embryonic stage. He has learned new concepts and techniques related to 3D imaging and his English proficiency has been improved during this study times. This visiting experience will improve his ability of scientific research and enrich his knowledge.
